We knew we were due for a magical round, and we finally got it!

For the first time in school history, the Stevenson Girls Golf team qualified for the State Tournament by finishing in second place at Monday's Mt. Prospect Golf Course Sectional.

With a team score of 340, the Lady Patriots bested Lake Forest by 1 stroke to claim one of the two team-qualifying spots. Barrington claimed the other by winning the Sectional with a team score of 333.

Stevenson was led by Sophomore Angelina Kim who fired a career low 3 over par (74) to win the individual Sectional Championship. Scores by Freshman Jennifer Gorman (87) and Sophomores Kaitlin Garske (89) and Alex Kessler (90) counted toward the team's total. Senior Brit Vipham and Junior Erin Moreau each shot 96s for the team.

Two articles in the News-Sun and the Daily Herald say it all.

Stone Creek Golf Course in Carbondale will host the Class AA State Tournament. Round 1 begins on Friday with Round 2 completed on Saturday, October 14th.

On to Sectionals!

For the second time in three years, the Lady Patriots finished second at the Bonnie Brook Regional.

With a team score of 374, Stevenson moves onto the Sectional at Mt. Prospect Golf Course on Monday, October 9th.

The conditions at the Regional were horrendous with two one-hour lightning delays disrupting play. The rain stopped in the afternoon, but gale-force winds kicked up to make for a mentally exhausting day.

Jennifer Gorman led the Lady Pats with a 90. She symbolized the fighting spirit of the team by posting a Regional low 40 on the back-nine after a tough start.

Kaitlin Garske kept the team in contention on the front nine with her team low 45 for the first nine holes.

Depth proved the key, again, for Stevenson's success. Garske's 94 was followed by Erin Moreau and Angelina Kim both shooting 95s.

The Patriots ended the season with an 11-2 dual meet record and finished second in conference.

Now it's time to catch some magic! Stevenson moves on to one of the toughest Sectionals in the state and must finish in the top two teams or place among the top eight individual scores to advance to the State tournament. All six girls playing on Monday know anything's possible after surviving Bonnie Brook!

The Girls Golf team would like to thank the Gormans for hosting our pre-Regional team dinner. We hope to be eating some of that left over cake in celebration Monday afternoon!
